Copperweld NM-B meets all the regulatory requirements defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC). The conductors are manufactured to UL safety specifications using Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA). CCA has been identified for use with wiring devices, splice connectors and equipment terminals rated for CU, CU/AL and CO/ALR.
Theft has been a prominent issue in residential installations; to combat this issue, the ingenuity of CCA’s bi-metallic bond makes it virtually impossible to separate, diminishing its consumer-channel scrap value.
Copper-Clad Aluminum NM-B is 20% lighter than copper NM-B when upsized. The reduction in weight decreases the amount of pulling tension, resistance, and effort required to transport wire around the job site. This ensures a more efficient workflow and decreases the risk of injury.
Copperweld’s CCA contains 8000 series aluminum, which is bi-metallically bonded with 99.9% oxygen free copper. When upsized, CCA results in a more energy-efficient conductor that operates at a lower temperature at the point of termination than traditional copper NM-B.
All CCA wiring practices comply with Article 334 of the NEC and should be sized according to NEC Table 310.16.
